Srinagar- A school teacher at Rawalpora locality in uptown Srinagar has been arrested under stringent sections of Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act for allegedly molesting and sexually assaulting two minor girl students in the school, police said on Wednesday.
The accused teacher was arrested following a complaint of molestation and sexually assaulting two minor girl students during school hours. A formal case under POSCO Act, police said, has been filed at Saddar police station in this regard.
The accused, working as Arabic teacher at Holy Faith School, Rawalpora has been identified as Satar Beigh (42) son of Nabar Beigh of Gurez area in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, who was presently putting in a rented accommodation at Hyderpora locality in uptown Srinagar.
Sources told Kashmir Observer that the accused teacher has been lodged at the Saddar police station and will be produced before the court for police remand.
Confirming the arrest, Srinagar police in a tweet said the accused has been arrested in a case of molestation and sexually assaulting two minor girl students of classes 4th and 5th.
“One Arabic teacher in Holy Faith School. Rawalpora namely Satar Beigh S/o Nabar Beigh R/o Gurez Bandipora (A/p staying at Hyderpura) arrested for molesting and sexually assaulting 2 minor girl students of class 4th and 5th in the school. FIR registered under POSCO act in Sadar PS,” reads the police tweet.
Pertinently, the principal of a government school in Srinagar was placed under suspension, hours after he was arrested by the police for allegedly molesting and harassing his students within and outside the school earlier this month.
Principal Boys Higher Secondary School Gund Hassibhat on the city outskirts was arrested by the police on the charges of molesting girl students.
A formal case FIR No 31 under IPC sections 354D (stalking), 294 (obscene acts in a public place) and 506 (criminal intimidation) stands registered at police station Shalteng in this regard.
Police have identified the accused principal as Shabir Ahmad Mir son of Ghulam Rasool Mir of Zadibal Srinagar. Sources said the accused besides forcing the girl students to indulge in adult talks on phone during the night, was touching them inappropriately during the school hours.
