Ganderbal- Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha said on Wednesday that overall arrangements for the annual Amarnath yatra have been upgraded and his administration will take all possible steps for pilgrimage to be convenient, safe and hassle-free.
Sinha made these remarks in a review meeting held at Sonamarg here on Wednesday with officials of his administration, shrine board members, and senior officers of police, army and central armed police forces (CAPFs), an official spokesperson said.
The LG, he said, also held on-site inspection of arrangements being made for the pilgrims through the Baltal route.
Sinha, he said, took appraisal of the arrangements put in place for healthcare, electricity, communication, water supply and sanitation, weather forecasting, disaster management, security grid and all other basic necessities for the pilgrims.
According to the spokesperson, the LG directed the officials to ensure yatra Base Camp has an adequate number of doctors, staff, equipment, medicines and oxygen cylinders. He said that BRO was instructed to mobilize resources and finish all works before commencement of the yatra.
“Since yatra is in difficult terrain at an altitude where the oxygen levels are low, healthcare facilities, care around the clock must be ensured,” Sinha said.
Impressing upon the officials to ensure communication services on yatra route and night air services, the LG, the spokesperson said, also directed for fitting tented accommodations with fire extinguishing equipment.
“Overall arrangements for the yatra have been upgraded. All the concerned departments must take necessary steps for making the pilgrimage convenient, safe and hassle-free,” the LG said.
At yatra Base Camp in Baltal, the LG inspected the ongoing work at DRDO’s Hospital and other facilities for the pilgrims.
It was informed that the hospital will be made functional by 17th June, the spokesperson said.
Among other officials who attended the meeting included Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, CEO, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board; Mandeep Kaur, Commissioner/Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj; Vijay Kumar, ADGP Kashmir; Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Secretary Tourism Department; Dr Raghav Langer, Secretary Planning, Development and Monitoring Department and Shyambir, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal and senior officials of Shrine Board, Civil Administration, Police, CAPFs and Army.
