Kashmiri Doctor To Receive People’s Honour At Westminster

Srinagar- Kashmiri origin Dr Muhammad Sohail Nasti, from Derbyshire is one of 26 remarkable individuals to be recognised at the Palace of Westminster with the prestigious British Citizen Award (BCA) in recognition of their extraordinary endeavours.

The British Citizen Award in partnership with One Stop, is now in its ninth year and recognises exceptional people who positively impact their communities throughout the country. Dubbed ‘The People’s Honours’ – due to the fact that anyone with an OBE, CBE of KBE is ineligible to receive a BCA – this programme recognises true community heroes for their divergent endeavours and positive impact on society.

Muhammad will be recognised at the Palace of Westminster on 29th June 2023 and honoured with The British Citizen Award for International Achievement and will receive the coveted BCA Medal of Honour and invited to use the post-nominals BCAo as a legacy of his achievements.

Muhammad founded the charity Mother Helpage UK in 1994 after he lost his mother, since then it has been delivering aid and help to many across the globe. Mother Helpage UK is a non-profit international humanitarian programme that provides financial donations, materials, medical aid and volunteer workers in order to implement sustainable projects and programmes in over 20 countries.

“His vision is to achieve social and economic justice for the most vulnerable, impoverished communities and to provide them with a sustainable future through the charity’s humanitarian development and sustainability programmes”, BCA said in a statement received by Kashmir Observer.

Dr Sohail Muhammad has served in several major global disasters offering humanitarian assistance on the ground. He has conducted several projects within the UK, such as youth development, prevention of knife crime and support for the homeless. Working against extremism is his passion, and he is dedicated to his important role. As well as founding the charity, Muhammad is currently producing, and appearing in, social awareness films looking at post-Covid mental health awareness. He supports sports initiatives internationally so that young people have something meaningful to become involved with, resulting in many being prevented from falling prey to drugs, knife crime and other anti-social activities.

“This year’s medalists have reminded us of how many amazing people are supporting our communities, especially during such a challenging time. At One Stop we serve many communities across the country, and we know how important voluntary work is to support those in need. We’re proud to be partnering with the BCA again and to play a small part in helping each medallist to be recognised. Our congratulations go to all honourees”, said Stephanie Wood, from BCA partner One Stop.

The Medal presentation will be hosted by TV presenter Matt Allwright, and attended by BCA Patrons, Dame Mary Perkins, Founder of Specsavers, and The Rt Hon Lord Dholakia.
