Baramulla- Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Tuesday said that the G-20 meeting couldn’t take place in the ski-resort of Gulmarg due time constraints and logistic issues.
He, however, stated that the successful event in Srinagar will ensure a huge number of foreign tourist arrivals at the ski-resort in the ensuing year.
The LG stated this after inaugurating several key infrastructure projects here on Tuesday.
While hailing the preparations put in place by the district administration to host the G-20 guests, the LG said that the foreign delegates couldn’t come to Gulmarg due to “time constraints and logistic issues.”
“But I am sure that the successful event in Srinagar will definitely help see a large number of foreign guests at the ski-resort in the ensuing year,” he said.
He said 57 foreign guests from 27 countries attended the G-20 meeting which is the highest ever participation as far as the G-20 working group meetings is concerned.
The LG said that the people of J&K are forgetting the past and playing their role in peace building.
“The UT is going through a massive development. But no development can take place without peace. There are still some elements who can’t digest this peace. We all will defeat their plans,” he said.
Taking a jibe at Pakistan, the LG said that the country that can’t feed its own people can never be the saviours of J&K citizens. “In Pakistan, Atta per kg is sold at Rs 125. How can it (Pakistan) be the well-wisher of people of J&K,” he said.
The LG said that in J&K, 70 per cent of the people are dependent on Agriculture.
“A massive change will take place in the Agriculture sector soon. There are 29 projects that are inter-linked but purely aimed at changing the fate of Agriculture and those associated with it,” he said.
