Former J&K Cricketer Booked For ‘Forging’ Birth Certificate

Srinagar- The Economic Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed an FIR against a local cricketer for allegedly producing a forged birth certificate to secure his place in Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) sponsored domestic first class cricket tournament twelve years ago.

A formal case was registered against the former cricketer at Economic Wing of Crime Branch Kashmir in this regard, after the probe agency established prime facie during a preliminary investigation.

The case was registered following a complaint filed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) in March 2021, wherein it was alleged that the accused Majid Yaqub Dar (ex-cricketer) son of Mohammad Yaqub Dar of Ishber Nishat had submitted a forged birth certificate to secure his place in the Ranji Trophy tournament way back in 2012-13.

Dar, according to the complaint, represented the J&K Cricket Association from 2001 to 2014 in BCCI sponsored National Tournaments.

“Crime Branch Kashmir received a written complaint from Chef Executive Office J&K Cricket Association Srinagar, vide communication number JKCA/CEO/20/230 dated 2-3-2021 wherein it was alleged that one Majid Yaqub Dar son of Mohammad Yaqub Dar of Ishber Nishat, (Ex cricketer) was playing from J&K Cricket Association from 2001 to 2014 in BCCI sponsored National Tournament,” reads the FIR, copy of which lies with Kashmir Observer.

It further reads that the accused during the registration process for Ranji Trophy in 2013 produced his certificate, showing his date of birth on December 30, 1978, while his actual date of birth was December 12, 1970.

The probe agency according to the FIR instantly initiated a probe vide PV NO 40/2021 to verify the authenticity of the complaint and filed an FIR No 26/23 against the accused after prima facie establishing the offense under sections 420, 467, 471 RPC at police station Crime Branch Kashmir.

During the probe it has got prima facie established that the accused Majid Yaqub Dar has submitted a fake/forged DOB certificate while for the BCCI sponsored National tournament during the year 2012-2013.

“The act of omission and commission on the part of the accused Majid Yaqub Dar prima face disclose commission of offense punishable u/s 420, 467, 471, RPC. Case is accordingly registered at the economic wing (Crime Branch) Kashmir and investigation taken up,” it added.
