LG To Inaugurate Arch Truss Wayil Bridge In Ganderbal Today

Srinagar- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will inaugurate the much-awaited two-lane arch truss bridge at the Wayil area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Thursday, officials said.

An official said that the bridge, being opened to ease out traffic movement, would be first-of-its-kind in Kashmir. “LG Manoj Sinha will inaugurate the bridge on May 25,” he said.

The present single-lane steel bridge has been causing frequent traffic jams due to which the commuters face inconvenience.

News agency KNO quoted locals as saying that tourists use this bridge to visit several famous picnic and pilgrim destinations including Sonamarg, Naranag and the Amarnath shrine in different areas of the district.

Executive Engineer R&B Tatheer Manzoor said that the two-lane bridge comes at the cost of Rs 23.79 crores, funded by the World Bank. He said the span of the bridge is 110 metres and the width is 10.50 metres besides a 10.5-metre footpath on both sides. The length of the approach roads is 330 metres, he added.

On May 22, Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal Shyambir along with ADDC Ganderbal Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani, Chief Planning Officer (CPO) Ganderbal, Executive Engineer R&B Tatheer Manzoor and DDC Lar-A visited the newly-constructed Wayil bridge and inspected the final work.

The DC instructed the concerned department to make proper arrangements for the inauguration.
