Srinagar- A photojournalist working for a local newspaper lost his eyesight and suffered critical injuries to other body parts, after he fell into an uncovered pit while documenting a photo feature for Srinagar Smart City at Lal Chowk late last evening.
Bilal Ahmad, a photojournalist who works for local news daily, in addition to injuries to other body parts, lost vision in his left eye and suffered critical injuries to right one after he fell into an open pit at Lal Chowk.
Hailing from Sopore area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, Bilal was on an assignment to cover night view of Smart City, when the incident took place.
“I was on an official assignment when I suddenly fell into an uncovered pit near Biscoe School while clicking pictures for Smart City. I am grateful to a man who came to my rescue and pulled me out of the pit,” said Bilal, adding some of my colleagues also rushed to the spot later.
He said the man who rescued him with the help of his colleagues took him to the SMHS hospital where he was discharged after receiving seven stitches in ear.
The injured photojournalist said that his family this morning took him to the eye hospital, wherein doctors told him that his left eye was completely damaged in the incident.
“The doctors said that I have completely lost vision in my left eye besides I cannot see from my right eye as well. My camera and the cell phone were also damaged in the incident,” he added.
