Public, Vehicular Movement Likely To Be Restricted On Boulevard From May 21

Srinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir administration has made last minute changes to the itinerary of high-profile tourism track delegates from G20 nations in the Valley by cutting short their visits to famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in North Kashmir and Dachigam wildlife sanctuary here in this capital city over security reasons.
A senior official told Kashmir Observer on Friday that the administration has cut short the sightseeing trip of tourism track delegates from G20 nations, arriving in Srinagar on May 21 to close proximity sights in Srinagar in view of security reasons.
The high-profile delegates’ trip to the Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary, officials said has also been swapped out for a visit to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Botanical Garden, Chashma Shahi and Pari Mahal.
The Boulevard Road stretch right from Nishat to Dalgate is likely to be restricted to vehicular traffic till the major international event at SKICC situated along the banks of Dal Lake concludes.
The participants from 19 G20 countries attending the working group meeting under India’s G20 presidency at the SKICC will be visiting the Royal Mughal Gardens Nishat and Shalimar rather than making the time-consuming and exhaustive drive to Gulmarg, officials said.
The decision, they said, was taken as a security measure and in view of the long distance travel to ski-resort which is around 55 kilometers from Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K.
Multitier security arrangements have been put in place in and around SKICC, the venue for G20 tourism track meeting with Marine Commando Force (MCF) and National Security Guards (NSG) commandos deployed in Jhelum and Dal Lake to avoid any untoward incident.
Officials said that police are also using counter-drone technology to keep a close eye on the public movement, while sharpshooters will be deployed atop buildings around Brein and Nishat to keep a watch on the venue.
Hi-tech drones will be monitoring across the city while Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras have been installed in and around the venue. Police and CRPF have increased patrolling in Srinagar.
Sources said that contingents of Army, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police will be deployed around the venue as part of security arrangements.
Patrolling in public places in Srinagar has been intensified and checking and frisking of public tightened.
