Srinagar- The department of health service Kashmir on Tuesday conducted mock drills to check the readiness of health facilities to deal with any situation arising during the upcoming G20 meeting in Srinagar.

The drills, according to the health officials, were conducted from the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir office to Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS). They said doctors have been trained in basic life support and drugs have been procured for events.

At the end of the mock drill, Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, Director Health Services, Kashmir expressed satisfaction over the successful completion of mock drills and stated that the department was ready to deal with any kind of situation.

“This was a dry run to check how we can deal with any kind of situation during the G20 event. We were checking the preparations that we did for the last two months,” Dr. Rather said.

He further added that the drills were conducted keeping in mind the venue for the delegates.

The exercise included checking of medical facilities in centers installed at different locations, availability of equipment, drugs, diagnostics and other logistics.

Spokesperson of Directorate of Health Services Kashmir, Dr. Mir Mushtaq told Kashmir Observer that there will be designated health centers near the venues and all the preparations are done including the dispatching of Ambulances.

According to officials, a fleet of critical care ambulances will be deployed near the venues.

He further said the department has set up a 24/7 divisional level control room to oversee and monitor the health arrangements.

Notably, as part of preparations for this year’s G20 Summit events, the Health Department Kashmir conducted a Basic Life Support (BLS) training program at the Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport.  The Basic Life Support programme was conducted on 16th March in the airport premises where 75 participants from airline staff, apron control, CISF and others attended.

India is hosting the G-20 summit this year, as G-20 Presidency, the country will be inviting Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain and UAE as Guest countries. Over 200 meetings are expected to be held across the country.

Srinagar city is also going to host one of the G20 events from May 22 and 24, despite strong opposition from neighbouring countries— Pakistan and China.

Notably, this will be the first international event in the valley post abrogation of Article 370—that granted special status to the himalayan region.

The event will be held at Sher-e- Kashmir International Convention Centre, Srinagar, (SKICC) from May 22-24 this year.

The administration has turned Srinagar into a smart city to make the event beautiful and historic. There are over 137 total projects taken by the SMC under the Smart city project  out of which 66 have been completed  while work on 71 projects are ongoing.

Kashmir prepares to host delegates from several countries as preparations for the third G20 tourism working group meeting are in full swing.
