Registration Of Schools To Be Cancelled If Parents Forced To Deposit Annual Fee, Purchase Books From Known Stores

Srinagar- The Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday said the registration of all those private schools will be cancelled under the School Education Act, in case the complaints of parents being fleeced in the name of annual fees, books and uniforms continue to be received.
Director School Education, Dr Tassaduq Hussain said the department will act tough against the private schools, asking parents to deposit annual charges besides forcing them to purchase books and uniforms from their known sellers.
Following complaints by parents, he said, the department recently suspended the managing body of a private school, the name of which was not disclosed by the latter.
“It is the students, whose academic career is affected at the end of the day and that’s what stops us from taking harsh measures. But we warn all those private schools forcing parents to deposit annual charges and purchase books from their known sellers to refrain from doing so, or else their registration will be cancelled,” Hussain told reporters on the sidelines of a function here.
The Director Education said that an important meeting of the Chairman of Fee Fixation Committee will be held within the next few days and that all the issues concerning parents as well as students will be taken up for necessary action.
He said the committees have been set up by the government on zonal, district and divisional levels in Jammu and Kashmir and that the action warranted under law is initiated in case of complaints.
Regarding violation of rules by the private schools, despite clear-cut order and directions from the government not to force parents to purchase school uniforms and books from their known sellers, he said all these issues will be discussed in a meeting to be chaired by the Chairman of Fee Fixation committee.
“Fee fixation committee chairman was not available for two months. He has recently joined and will be taking steps in this direction. He is listening to the grievances of parents and has been in touch with the parent associations and the school management authorities. He will shortly call a meeting to deliberate upon these issues,” he added.
