Srinagar- Thousands of devotees converged at Hazratbal shrine here on Friday and offered congregational prayers on Jumat-ul-Vida, the last Friday of the holy month of Ramazan, even as the historic Jamia Masjid in old Srinagar was locked by the authorities for prayers due to unspecified reasons.
Besides Hazratbal, tens of thousands of fasting Muslims thronged mosques and shrines across Kashmir Valley to participate in the congregational Friday prayers.
Due to the closure of Jamia Masjid, the biggest congregation was witnessed at Hazratbal shrine. Devotees, including a large number of women from length and breadth of the Valley attended the congregational prayers.
Emotional scenes were witnessed when Imam-Hi or chief cleric of Hazratbal shrine displayed the holy relic after congregational prayers. Devotees, many with moist eyes, raised their hands in supplication seeking Allah’s blessings.
Similar congregations were held in several other mosques and shrines in the valley including Jenab Sahab Soura, Asar Sharif Shahr-e-Kalashpora, Syed Yaqoob Sahab-Sonwar, Dastgeer Sahib Khanyar and Sarai Payeen, Asar Sharif Lal Bazar and Makhama-Beerwah.
Devotees could be seen offering congregational prayers on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramazan on the streets adjacent to several mosques and shrines in Srinagar and elsewhere in Kashmir.
Authorities had organized medical camps for the devotees while a route plan devised for the day by the Traffic Police department also helped smooth movement of traffic on all routes leading to Hazratbal shrine.
Roads and streets leading to the shrine were decorated with buntings and markets in Hazratbal wore a festive look with vendors doing brisk business.
Hundreds of private and SRTC vehicles ferried the devotees. Besides transport, arrangements for power, drinking water, medical aid camps and sanitation were also made for the convenience of devotees.
