AIFF dock Real Kashmir 3 points for Churchill gaffe

SRINAGAR- Mizoram-born midfielder Lalnuntluanga Bawitlung scored a last minute equaliser on Saturday to save Real Kashmir FC the blushes in the front of its home crowd as the team managed to draw 2-2 against NEROCA FC in I-League at Synthetic Turf, TRC here.

Real Kashmir were off to a flyer when Ghanian defender Richard Osei Agyemang gave his team the lead in the 10th minute of the match. However, the Snow Leopards’ joy was short-lived as the referee awarded Imphal, Manipur-based NEROCA a penalty in the 13th minute. NEROCA’s 25-year-old Jamaican international Jourdaine Fletcher stepped up to take the spot kick and scored to bring his side on equal terms.

The next goal in the match came in 70th minute when central defender Agyemang scored an own goal to give NEROCA a 2-1 lead. Barely two minutes later, Real Kashmir’s new head coach Gifton Noel-Williams substituted Agyemang for Ghanian striker Ernest Boateng. The English coach also changed his team’s formation with the move, shifting from three at the back to four.

But it wasn’t until the 90+4 minute of extra time when Bawitlung grabbed a riveting equaliser for the home side to send a cheer across TRC.

There are some positives for the Snow Leopards to take from the draw as it was clawed from the jaws of defeat and they remain unbeaten under new management. Real Kashmir next play Mohammedan SC on Thursday, February 18 at Synthetic Turf TRC.
