50 Kanal Of State, Kacharai Land Retrieved From Ex-Minister, Family

Srinagar- Turning heat on the mainstream politicians in the Valley, the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Saturday retrieved about 50 kanal of state and Kahcharai land illegally occupied by former Finance Minister, Haseeb Drabu and his family in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Complying with the directions of Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, a team of revenue officials under the supervision of Tehsildar Keegam retrieved 15 kanal of state land and 35 kanal of Kahcharai at village Pirpora which were encroached by Former Finance minister and his family members, an official spokesperson said Saturday.

Besides, he said, 3 kanal of land encroached by the brother of a former MLC was also freed in village Chitragam of the South Kashmir district.

The action against politicians, including Drabu comes a day after authorities ran a bulldozer over a commercial structure belonging to a former minister Ghulam Hassan Khan in Shopian district.

In Saturday’s anti-encroachment drives, the spokesperson said, 406 kanal of state and Kahcharai land was retrieved across the district.

In Tehsil Shopian, he said, 40 shops built on state land were also sealed on Saturday by the Executive Magistrate.

He said that a team of revenue officials under the supervision of Tehsildar also freed 90 kanal of Kahcharai and 12 kanal of state land in Ramnagri village during the anti-encroachment drive.

Similarly, the spokesperson said, in Tehsil Barbugh, 149 kanal and 10 marlas of Kahcharai land was reclaimed at Hardoo Handew, in Tehsil Keller 16 kanal of state land was retrieved in Batmuran Wanpora, in Tehsil Herman 31 kanal and 11 marlas of Kahcharai and 13 kanal and 9 marlas of state land was retrieved in Nagisheran and in tehsil Zainapora, 40 kanal and 12 marlas of Kahcharai land was freed from the land grabbers.

“The retrieved land shall be earmarked for various developmental projects, playgrounds, village centric amenities and various other development and public welfare purposes in consultation with PRIs and local people,” the spokesperson added.
