SRINAGAR- Tazeem Fayaz, hailing from Shahr e Khas, Srinagar has won a silver medal at the All India Inter-University National Judo Championship (Women’s Category) 2022–23.
The championship was inaugurated at the Lovely Professional University, Punjab on January 8, 2023, and is being held under the aegis of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
Many judoka students from 110 universities across the nation are competing in this event in different weight categories.
Tazeem, a student of J&K Sports Council’s Regional Coaching Centre, Srinagar, stated in an interview with Kashmir Observer that it was really difficult and challenging to make it to the finals because more than 110 universities were participating in this weight category.
“My next target is to compete in the upcoming Khelo India University Games and World University Games. This praise also goes to Mrs. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the Sports Council, who works tirelessly to provide basic facilities to the players,” she added.
Tazeem has been trained by J&K Sports Council’s senior judo coach Shafkat Shafi for the past seven years. Tazeem has now become a six-time national medallist.
Coach Shafkat Shafi stated that it took a lot of effort from both the coach and the student to reach this milestone in such a preferred Olympic sport. He further added that anyone interested in learning judo can enrol at the Indoor Sports Complex Polo View, Srinagar, where he trains the players every working day after 3:00 PM.
