J&K End Santosh Trophy Campaign With A 4-2 Win

Aakif Javaid scores a hat-trick against Andra Pradesh

SRINAGAR- The J&K football team on Saturday secured a comfortable 4-2 victory over Andra Pradesh to end their Santosh Trophy campaign on a happy note.

Anantnag lad Aakif Javaid Reshi scored 3 goals to lead his team to victory at EMS Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode, Kerala.

J&K head coach Satpal Singh Kala made several changes to the starting line up, one of which included the change up front. The team played well in the first half, with Ateeb Ahmed Dar opening the score in the 14th minute of the match.

After seeing his side struggle to convert the chances, Coach Kala introduced Aakif in the 51st minute. The move paid dividend barely 10 minutes later as Aakif scored three in the 61st, 69th and 71st minutes of the match to take J&K to a 4-0 lead and puting the tie to bed.

Andhra Pradesh fought back in the dying moments to pull back two goals. But the effort was not enough.

With this match, J&K ended the 73rd National Football Championship Santosh Trophy in 3rd position of their Group II table, accumulating 7 points from a possible 15. The team played 5 matches, winning 2, losing 2 and drawing 1 in the process.
