Srinagar- After missing several deadlines in the past more than one decade, authorities say the work on the much-awaited Noorbagh-Qamarwari Bridge is going to get completed by March 2023.

Speaking on anonymity, an Official of the R&B Department Division I said that, subject to favorable weather conditions, the work on the Noor Jahan Bridge will be completed soon.

“We will lay a deck slab on the bridge and it won’t need macadamization and if all goes well, we will ensure it gets completed by March 2023.” He said.

He further said that work on the approach roads from both the ends are nearing completion.

However, he said that the macadamization of approach roads will be carried out in the month of May 2023.

Officials say the Qamarwari side of the bridge hosts some concrete structures including the building of the Fire & Emergency Department which have to be raised to the ground to pave way for a smooth landing from the bridge.

“The building of the Fire & Emergency Department will be auctioned soon and the other shops will be raised to the ground soon. ”  he said.

Pertinently, the “New Noor Jahan Bridge” is being constructed at a cost of Rs 957 lakhs and the allotment cost of the approach roads is Rs 398 lakhs.

For city dwellers and people from other towns thronging the city, the ride on the “cement bride” is a hectic one, because of the huge volume of vehicles plying on the bridge.

Once completed, the bridge will lessen traffic on the already existing “Cement Bridge” which over the period of time has served as an important link between Shahr-e- Khaas and other areas of North Kashmir.

It is pertinent to mention, the construction of the Noor Jahan Bridge started in 2011. Initially, the bridge was scheduled to be completed in the year 2014. Later, the deadline was extended upto March 2017 and then upto December 2018.

Earlier, In May 2022, Executive Engineer, Roads and Building Department, Division I Srinagar had said the Bridge would be made motorable by the end of the year 2022.
