ADGP Says All But One Module Behind Target Killings Neutralized
Srinagar- Three militants were killed in an encounter with a joint team of police, army and CRPF in Munj Marg area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday, police said.
According to a police spokesperson, “Acting on specific information generated by police regarding presence of militants in Munj Marg area of Shopian, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army’s 1RR and 178 battalion of CRPF in the area. During the search operation, he said, as the joint search party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated, leading to an encounter”, he said.
In the ensuing encounter, he said, three local militants were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Mohammad Lateef Lone of Check Kachidoora Shopian, Umer Nazir Bhat of Check Ban Dialgam Anantnag and Danish Hussain Kakroo of Old Town Baramulla.
As per police records, he said, the trio were categorized militants and involved in several cases including attacks on Police and SFs. “It is pertinent to mention here that Latif Ahmad was involved in killing of a Kashmiri Pandit Purana Krishna Bhat while as Umer Nazir was involved in several cases including the killing of Till Bahadur Thapa of Nepal.”
He said incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one-AK-47 rifle, two Pistols and two grenades were recovered from the site of the encounter.
“ADGP Kashmir congratulated the joint team of Police and security forces for conducting successful operation without any collateral damage and termed the operation as a big success,” the spokesperson said, adding, “He also said that all the militant modules involved in civilian killings in the last three years have been neutralized and there is only one left which will be neutralized soon.”
