AWANTIPORA- Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice Chancellor IUST, on Thursday flagged off University Football Team (Men) for their participation in the upcoming Inter-University Football Championship.
The competition will begin on Friday, December 16, at the GNA University, Phagwara, Punjab. The sixteen-member squad shall take part in the tournament in which 79 University teams from all across the country are participating. The championship will culminate on December 24.
The Vice Chancellor wished the team the best and urged the players to play the game in great spirit and be the best ambassadors of the University. He said that the University is committed towards further developing Sports infrastructure and encouraging students to participate in sports events held at the National and International levels. He emphasized that such opportunities allow the participants to learn from each other and encourage sportsmanship and fraternity.
The visiting team shall be accompanied by the officials of the Directorate of Physical Education, IUST.
The tournament’s knockout matches will be held till December 21, after which quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals will begin. The winning team will participate in the inter-zonal match.
