WHEN personal data is openly shared at various digital platforms, it is all the more critical that there are sound firewalls to protect it from any breach. If the Centre itself has given too much access to personal data and the common public has the fear of getting exploited then they do not have anywhere to go for reprieve. Yes, there have been revisions over the last draft but if there are still some huge gaps which are still putting people at risk then they must be sorted out without any delay before this personal data protection bill is passed and becomes law. With the kind of dynamic environment we are living in and technology playing a huge role in our lives, we would become all the more vulnerable in terms of personal data, so GoI would do well to take a pragmatic approach and not make people live at their mercy. Personal privacy and data protection is too serious a matter to be left to the discretion of the government alone.
