Letter To Editor | Response To Chai And Corruption Op-ed

Share

THIS refers to the article by Dr Tauseef Parray & Danish Bashir published in Kashmir Observer on Nov 16th titled “The Other Chai: Corruption & Why It Must End“. The authors of this article have beautifully explained the concept of Chai with regard to Kashmiri society. The corruption has gained social acceptance in our society and this has polluted all the three branches of Government i.e Legislative, Judiciary and Executive. The legislative and executive are most infected and it seems corruption will never come to an end.

The authors have referred to Anti-Corruption Bureau’s awareness programme during Vigilance Awareness Week (Oct 31st to Nov 6th). In this regard I want to say that such programmes should not be restricted to vigilance week only. The ACB must hold such events every month in each district and I would suggest the Director ACB, to use the services of religious leaders to spread the message of corruption and its negative impact on society. People are fed up with corruption but they see no role models in society.

The PMGSY,R&B, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Geology & Ming Agriculture, Horticulture, Revenue and Police departments are the most corrupt Govt organisations in J&K and Govt has failed to check the assets of the employees working in these departments. The Tourism Development Authorities, Municipal Institutions are also fleecing people and allowing illegal constructions. Corruption is a social problem and has to be tackled socially and religiously.
