Residents Of Shalimar, Harwan Complain Of Water Shortage

Share

Srinagar- The Inhabitants of Nishat, Shalimar and Harwan have complained of water shortages in their localities.

The residents said they are facing water shortages from the last few weeks, however, authorities have turned a blind eye towards their problems.

“We receive water supply for a few hours during the day, otherwise it is negligible” said a Shalimar resident.

Irked by water shortages, the residents of Arabal Shalimar lodged a protest on Monday.

However, the officials of the Jal Shakti Department say they are doing their bit to provide the residents with adequate water supply.

Speaking to Kashmir Observer, Assistant Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Department, Tabish Jehan said the reason behind water storage in these localities is the reduction in discharge of Dachigam Nallah.

Another reason for the water shortages, she said, is the “dry spell”.

“The reduction in discharge of Dachigam Nallah and dry spell are the main reasons behind the water shortages in the localities of Nishat, Shalimar and Harwan” Jahan said.

However, she hoped with one spell of rain the “water scarcity” issues will be over.
