Kashmir Valley On Alert As HM Shah Arrives In Srinagar

Srinagar- Union Home Minister Amit Shah Tuesday arrived here as part of his three-day tour to the Union territory, officials said.

They said Shah arrived at the Srinagar airport from the Jammu region at around 7 pm.

The Union home minister set off the three-day tour of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. He met several delegations on Monday, and on Tuesday, he visited Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine at Katra and addressed a public rally in Rajouri.

On the Shah’s Kashmir itinerary is a public rally in Baramulla on Wednesday and a security review meeting, the officials said.

They said the focus of the meeting will be on tackling the attacks on the non-locals in the Kashmir valley.

The launch and foundation laying of various development projects in Srinagar is also on Shah’s list, the officials said, adding he will then return to Delhi the same evening.

Security has been tightened in the valley for the Shah’s visit. The officials said multi-tier security has been put in place and drones are being used for aerial surveillance as well.

The checking on Srinagar-Baramulla highway has been intensified, while additional police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed to keep a close watch on the situation, they said.

Patrolling has been intensified at many places, especially on the Srinagar-Baramulla-Kupwara highway, the officials added.

The rally venue has been turned into a fortress, they said.

The BJP has said Shah’s Baramulla rally will be historic. “This will be the biggest rally in the history of north Kashmir,” BJP’s J-K unit president Ravinder Raina said.

Train Service To Remain Suspended

The authorities on Tuesday said that train service between Baramulla and Budgam section will remain suspended on Wednesday in view of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Baramulla to address a public rally.

According to a communique, the train service between Baramulla and Budgam section will remain suspended in connection with the VVIP visit to Baramulla.

The communique reads that the train service has been suspended in view of the present security scenario.

Mobile Internet Suspended In Parts Of Jammu, Rajouri

Authorities on Tuesday suspended mobile internet services in parts of Jammu and Rajouri districts till 1700 hours on Tuesday, fearing “misuse by miscreants” which may cause “deterioration in public order”.

The temporary suspension of the internet services comes while Union Home Minister Amit Shah is on a visit to the area.

“The ADGP, Jammu Zone, Jammu being the Authorized Officer under the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017, has issued directions to the Telecom Service Providers (TSPs)/Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to suspend mobile data (2G/3G/4G) services in District Jammu at Lat:32.816110, Long:74.818369 and within a radius of 1.5 KMs around the mentioned latitude/longitude and in District Rajouri at Lat:33.338402, Long 74.337315 and within a radius of 1.5 KMs around the mentioned latitude/longitude w.e.f 03.10.2022 (1700 HRS) to 04.10.20222 (1900 HRS),” read a government order issued by the Financial Commissioner Home (ACS) R K Goyal.

“The order/letter under reference , inter-alia, mentions about possibility of Mobile Data (2G/3G/4G) services to be misused by anti-national elements/miscreants, which may cause deterioration in public order,” the government order said, adding, “Upon consideration of the various aspects, as brought out in the material provided by the Authorized Officer, I, Financial Commissioner (ACS) Home, being satisfied that there was absolute necessity for issuance of the aforesaid directions by the Authorized Officer, without obtaining prior approval of the Competent Authority, in the interest of sovereignty and integrity of India, the security of the State and for maintaining public order, hereby confirm order No. 874(TSTS) of 2022 dated 03.10.2022, under endorsement No. JZ/CS/Snap-down/2022/875-76 dated 03.10.2022 issued by the Authorized Officer, in exercise of powers conferred under sub-rule (1) of Rule 2 of the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017.”
