Srinagar- The lab technicians working with hospitals associated with Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar on Wednesday said that the government has failed to provide them with incentives for working during covid times.
The lab technicians working in Government Medical College and associated hospitals Lal Ded Hospital, C D Hospital, G B Pant and Bones & Joints Hospital said after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic they were engaged by the government in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.
Pertinently, the Government of India had decided to provide incentives to health workers associated with dealing with the deadly pandemic.
“We used to work and all the collection of samples was done by us but we were given no benefits” said a Lab technician working at LD Hospital.
“We helped in defeating the pandemic but we were denied incentives”
“Authorities say they had incentives for only 1900 employees, how is it justified” he questioned.
Speaking on anonymity lab technicians allege that the authorities have been choosy while disbursing the incentives and some of the deserving lab technicians have been left to fend for themselves.
However, authorities say the day incentives were announced, only a selected group of hospitals were involved in the fight against coronavirus. Other hospitals were engaged at the later stage.
Speaking to Kashmir Observer, Principal Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar Dr Samia Rashid said at the time the Incentives were announced only C D hospital, Kashmir Nursing Home and some sections of SMHS Hospitals were engaged in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic.
“At that time, the names of 1900 employees were sanctioned for incentives. Over a period of time other hospitals had to be taken on board to help fight the pandemic, which increased the number of employees” Dr Samia said.
She further said that health workers have helped in the fight against covid-19 in CD Hospital and some sections of SMHS have been given the incentives.
However, she did agree that other employees are still awaiting the perks.
“The government has allocated the funds, but they aren’t sufficient. We are awaiting clarification from the government as long as that comes, we will do the needful”.
