Srinagar- The inaugural ceremony of four days orientation Training Programme on Agri Export Marketing for Cooperatives and FPOs was held at Shalimar Campus on Monday.
The programme is organized by Division of Food Science and Technology and Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM), Pune from 25th to 28th July, 2022.
The aim and objective of the programme is to equip the participants with comprehensive knowledge and skills on various aspects of international marketing with a special emphasis on apple, walnut and saffron.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice-chancellor, SKUAST-K, Guest of Honour- Sh. Shafqat Iqbal (JKAS), Registrar, Cooperative Societies, J&K, Chief Patron, Dr. Hema Yadav, Director VAMNICOM.
The ceremony commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Shabir Ah. Wani, Dean Faculty of Horticulture, highlighted the role of conducting such programmes to strengthen the cooperative societies and FPOs for doubling the farmer’s income.
Prof. (Dr.) Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice-Chancellor, highlighted the initiative taken by the Govt. of India to establish three lakh Cooperative Societies and ten thousand Farmer Produce Organizations across India. He also highlighted the future role of SKUAST-K for conducting short-term vocational courses for skill development in Agri-processing sector.
Prof. S.Z Hussain, Head, Division of FST while speaking on the occasion highlighted the achievements of the Division. He deliberated the success stories of the division for the development and commercialization of innovative technologies, a few to mention like saffron beverage, dispersible saffron kehwa tablets, apple chips, apple powder, walnut butter and mechanized inshelled walnut processing chain. He further highlighted the role Academia-Industry Interface for the revival of sick food processing industries in J&K.
Shafqat Iqbal (JKAS), Registrar Cooperative Societies was the Guest of Honour informed the house about the role and scope of Cooperative Societies for the betterment of farming community. He emphasized upon the need for conducting trainings for cooperative societies and to establish a linkage with the market for boosting Agri-export trade in UT of Jammu & Kashmir. He stressed upon the importance of adopting Cooperative Society membership for short and long term programmes. For the benefit of farming community, establishment of Primary Agriculture Credit Societies was the major highlight of his talk. He thanked SKUAST-K and VAMNICOM for taking the initiative to conduct such training programme.
Dr. Heema Yadav, highlighted the role of cooperatives and FPOs to support traceability in agricultural value chains thereby benefiting producers and consumers. She also highlighted the immense potential of value addition of agricultural commodities and direct linkage of cooperatives and farmers produce organization with export market for enhancing farmers income.
