3 Pakistani Nationals, Arrested Militant Among Those Killed

Srinagar- Three more militants were killed in two separate encounters with government forces in Kashmir on Monday, taking the number of militants killed in the past 24 hours to seven, police said.

A police spokesperson said two militants were killed in a fresh exchange of fire in the ongoing encounter in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, taking the death toll in the overnight operation to four.

Two militants were killed in the encounter on Sunday.

“KupwaraEncounterUpdate: 02 more #terrorists including #terrorist Showkat got #neutralised (total 04). #Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition recovered. Search going on. Further details shall follow,” the police spokesperson tweeted.

In a statement issued here, a police spokesperson identified the killed militants as Bambar Khan, Al-Bakash, Aftab Bhai of Pakistan of Lashkar besides Showket Ahmad Sheikh of Sedow village in Shopian.

He further claimed that it was on Sheikh’s disclosure that the operation was carried out. Sheikh, he said, was mastermind behind an IED blast in a private vehicle in which one soldier was killed and others injured.

The spokesperson further claimed that the killed local militant used to ferry militants, arms and ammunitions from Lolab to Shopian.

“Incriminating materials, arms/ammunition including 02 AK-series rifles, 06 AK Magazines, 01 M-4 rifle along with 01 Magazine and 03 live grenades were recovered from their possession,” he added.

In another encounter in Pulwama district, the police spokesperson said that a local LeT militant Suhail Ahmad Khan of Maidan Chogal Handwara was killed.

The encounter broke out in Pulwama’s Chatpora after the police and army’s 55 RR and the CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area, he said.

In the exchange of fire between the two sides, the spokesperson said Khan was killed.

Khan, he said, was involved in several cases including attacks on Police/security forces and other “civilian atrocities”.

The spokesperson quoted IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar congratulating the joint teams for carrying out operations in professional manner without any collateral damage.

“He also termed the elimination of 7 terrorists in less than 24hrs as a big success taking the toll of total killed terrorists to 114 including 32 foreigners so far in this year,” he added.
