Srinagar- Parts of Kashmir, including capital Srinagar, observed a shutdown on Friday over the derogatory remarks by BJP leaders against Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) while the authorities snapped mobile Internet as a precautionary measure, officials said.
Government forces have been deployed in strength at sensitive places in the city and elsewhere in the Valley for maintaining law and order, they said.
City centre of Lal Chowk and adjoining area of the civil lines remained shut in protest.

Downtown Srinagar too witnessed a complete shutdown with public transport off the roads.
However, traffic was plying in Civil Lines with offices and schools remaining open.
Authorities have shut down the Internet on mobile devices in many areas as a precautionary measure to stop rumour-mongers, officials said, adding there were no reports of any untoward incident in the Valley so far.
Meanwhile, protests erupted at several places here on Friday with the Hurriyat Conference alleging that anti-Muslim measures have become a hallmark of the government.
Protests were held at Lal Chowk, Batamaloo, Tengpora and other places in the city.
Holding placards, men, as well as women, staged protests after the Friday congregational prayers, officials said.
They said the protests were peaceful with no untoward incident being reported from anywhere.
Authorities had snapped the internet on mobile phones in Srinagar as a precautionary measure to prevent rumor-mongering.
The Hurriyat Conference headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, while condemning the repeated closure of the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar for Friday prayers by the authorities, alleged that anti-Kashmir and anti-Muslim measures are a hallmark of the central rule.
