ICAR Grants ‘Grade A’ Accreditation To SKUAST-K

Srinagar- The SKUAST-Kashmir added one more feather to its cap with its accreditation as “Grade-A” University by Indian Council of Agricultural Research, (ICAR), New Delhi.

The accreditation process was initiated immediately after taking-over the reins of the varsity as Vice-Chancellor in December,2021, a SKUAST spokesperson said. He said that all Directors and Deans of Subject Matter Faculties were mentioned in the accreditation process. Self-Study Report was followed by assessment by the “Peer Review Team” under the Chairmanship of Prof. A.K. Singh, former Vice –ChancellorBAU, Sabour (Bihar).

“The team conducted extensive visits of all the colleges for the campus ambience,availability of the physical infrastructure, strengths and weaknesses of the academic programmes and availability of the quality human resource. The team critically observed the vision of SKUAST-Kashmir (Vision-2050) withregard to orientation of its education programmes amid changing national and global scenarios,” he said.

He further said that the National Agricultural Education Accreditation Board (NAEAB), has granted accreditation to 06 undergraduate programmes, 31 postgraduate programmes and 22 Doctoral programmes offered by the University at its 06 Academic Campii.

Earlier on SKUAST-Kashmir has been rated as 6th best SAU in the Country by ICAR. Ministry of Education has rated SKUAST-Kashmir in “Band Excellent” category of institutions in innovations. The University is also the recipient of 2nd best in number of scholarships received by its students in Veterinary & Fisheries Sciences.

The spokesperson said that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai has expressed satisfaction over accreditation of the University with “Grade-A”and attributed this achievement to the hard work put in by the University Teaching & Non-teaching staff and the students.

He added that the Ranking of Institutions at national level instils a competitive spirit amongst institutions to perform better.

He further added that it is only because of the sincere, transparent and professional approach of the Institution which has improved at national level and the University has emerged as one of the leading and pioneer State Agricultural University. The role of University authorities in giving new directions to Academic and Research is highly appreciable and acknowledged by one and all.

The Accreditation is valid for next five years and is subjected to mid-term review.
