Demystifying Domestic Violence in Kashmir

Although J&K is doing relatively better than many states in India, spousal violence is still estimated to be over 13% here. However, numbers in such matters rarely tell an accurate story. The stigma and sensitivity around the topic rarely let victims report the crimes in the first place. Intimate partner violence especially is quite complex.

In today’s discussion, KO’d Tooba Towfiq, along with Dr. Shazia Malik, Assistant Professor, Women’s Studies Center, Faculty of Social Sciences University of Kashmir are going to delve into the dynamics of domestic violence to understand what it is that disenfranchises and dis empowers women so much in the family system in Kashmir.
