Charges Filed Against Police Follower In Bribe For Job Case

Jammu: The anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday filed a chargesheet against a police follower for demanding and accepting a bribe from a person for adjusting his relative in the police department.

According to an ACB spokesperson, chargesheet was filed against Abdul Gafoor of Nakka Manjari Mendhar Poonch currently posted in IRP-18th Battalion Gulshan Ground Jammu, in the court of Special Judge Anti-Corruption Rajouri, in a case FIR No. 38/2018 U/S 5(1)(d), 4-A r/w Section 5(2) of J&K Prevention of Corruption Act Svt. 2006 (as amended in 2014) registered against him at police station vigilance now ACB Jammu.

The ACB spokesperson said that case against Gafoor was filed on the basis of enquiry report forwarded by Addl. Director General of Police Security Hqrs, over the complaint of Abdul Majid of Dharana, Tehsil Mendhar, District Poonch in which he had alleged that Gafoor, then posted as Follower No F-22/4th Security Bn, had demand and accepted bribe of Rs.1.5 lakh from the complainant with the assurance to get his close relatives adjusted in Police Department.

“However, despite paying the bribe amount, neither his close relatives were adjusted nor the amount in question returned to him etc. After registration of formal case against the alleged accused, the investigation was conducted and statements of witnesses recorded under section 161 Cr.PC. and it came to fore that accused Abdul Gafoor being a member of Police Department and by taking the advantage of his good relation with superior officers has misused his official position and with dishonest intention has demanded and accepted bribe amount from the complainant for providing government job of his close relatives which is serious violation of the Police Rule/Norms,” he said

He further said that on the strength of facts and circumstances, together with cogent and clinching evidence brought on record, the investigation has established the commission of offences U/S 5(1)(d) r/w 5(2) and 4-A of J&K Prevention of Corruption Act Svt. 2006 are made out against the said public servant.

“The prosecution sanction in respect of in-service public servant namely Follower Abdul Gafoor No.F-22/ AP 4th Security PID No. ARP-055730 was obtained from the competent authority,” the Bureau spokesperson said.

He said that the case has been listed for next hearing on March 2, 2022.
