Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have shifted a prominent Kashmiri Pandit leader, Sanjay Tikoo to a safer place after receiving intelligence inputs about his possible assassination.

Tikoo, who heads Kashmiri Pandit Sangharsh Samiti (KPSS)—an organisation which primarily addresses the concerns of Kashmiri Pandits that stayed back in the valley, told Kashmir Observer that he was shifted to a “Security zone” after the police had received inputs about his killing.

Tickoo was shifted on October 6 and remains confined to a particular place.

He said, he had never faced any kind of threat since last 32 years in Kashmir.

He said there are around 800 Pandit families living in the Kashmir Valley who decided to stay here with the onset of militancy in Kashmir.

Since last week, several Pandit families reportedly left the Valley and some even went to Jammu following the killing of pharmacist ML Bindroo.

Sources from J&K police said that security has been beefed around the areas where Kashmiri Pandits are staying.
Many businessmen from the community could be seen shutting their shops earlier in Srinagar.

In an act of solidarity, two mosques from Srinagar’s downtown during Friday sermons on October 8, appealed attendees to stand with minorities and ensure they feel confident of the majority community’s support.
