Srinagar: Mobile internet services continue to remain barred for the fifth consecutive day Monday in the twin districts of Srinagar and Budgam while it was restored elsewhere after reviewing the situation in the backdrop of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s death on Wednesday last.
“Mobile internet will be open shortly today by 7pm in all districts except Srinagar & Budgam. Will review about Srinagar & Budgam tomorrow afternoon,” a police spokesperson quoted IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar as saying.
The restoration of mobile internet services came five days after authorities snapped communication lines, including voice calling and internet services on all cellular companies on Thursday, hours after Geelani passed away at his Hyderpora residence on Wednesday night.
While voice calling and fixed broadband services were restored on Saturday, mobile internet services remained snapped across all ten districts of the Valley till Monday evening. Barring Srinagar and Budgam districts, the high speed mobile internet services were restored.
Meanwhile, businesses started resuming after days of restrictions enforced by government forces fearing law and order problem over Geelani’s death.
According to reports, most of the shops, business establishments, private and government offices, banks and petrol pumps in Srinagar’s major parts resumed their work. The transport that remained affected due to the curbs also returned to its normal course on almost all the roads and highways in the valley.
However, most of the shops remained shut in the Old City here for the fifth day.
Meanwhile, train service remained suspended for the fifth straight day today in the valley as a precautionary measure. According to reports, train did not chug on Srinagar-Budgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir for the fifth day today.
