Pollution Of Lakes, Waste Management Rules On Their Agenda
Srinagar: A parliamentary panel will visit Kashmir Valley on a four day tour from August 16 to look into the provisioning, procurement of machines and status of implementation of waste management rules with special reference to Swachh Bharat Mission.
The standing Rajya Sabha committee will arrive in Kashmir on a four-day study tour starting from August 16 and will look into the provisioning, procurement of machines and status of implementation of waste management rules with special reference to Swachh Bharat Mission, reads an official communiqué, a copy of which lies with Kashmir Observer.
The visiting delegation will focus on the administrative development and people’s welfare under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
According to the order, the delegation is expected to visit Srinagar’s Dal Lake on August 17 to bring forth the issues related with controlling pollution in the Lakes of J&K and on August 18, the delegation will arrive at Gulmarg to check the status of the Waste Management rules in and around Gulmarg.
“The committee will also oversee a discussion session with representatives of banks including J&K bank along with several other representatives from CERC, NTPC, PFC, PGCIL and J&K State Power Development Authority,” the order reads.
Apart from the on-spot tours, the committee will also meet officers from the home ministry and the local administration in Srinagar.
Among the officers deputed by the Home Ministry in the region, Chief Secretary Arun Mehta is expected to meet the delegation. Pertinently, the standing committee on energy is also expected to be touring J&K from August 21 to 26.
Meanwhile, the standing committee for external affairs led by former law minister PP Chaudhary is likely to visit J&K for five days in the first week of September. The committee is expected to augment infrastructure facilities in J&K to boost economy in the region.
According to the sources in the administration, over 100 MP’s are expected to visit J&K on a study tour by the end of September.
