JKFA Commends AFC Licensee Coach Masood Maqbool

By R. Elahi

SRINAGAR:  The Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) on Thursday commended Masood Maqbool, a young football coach from Srinagar for successfully passing the AIFF ‘E’ Certificate Instructor Course.

Masood, an AFC ‘C’ Licence Coach, passed the ‘E’ Certificate Instructor course held at Goa in April of this year. He can now coach aspiring ‘E’ Licence coaches.

“Masood is working with JKFA with dedication for the development of the game in the UT. We hope that he will come up to the expectations of the Association for this new and challenging role which has been given to him by the All India Football Federation (AIFF),” the JKFA said in a statement.

“His appointment as AIFF ‘E’ Certificate Tutor will go a long way in the development of grassroots football in the UT. The Association wishes him very best for his future endeavour,” it added.

A former footballer, Masood has also worked on the coaching staff of Lonestar Kashmir FC and other professional football clubs of Kashmir Valley.

He has also assisted Valley’s top notch coaches Sajid Dar and Hilal Parray whom he sees as his coaching inspirations.

“I have seen the coaching set-up in Brazil and in many parts of India. So I understand how far behind Kashmir is. We have so much footballing talent all around us but we are unable to nurture it because of a lack of coaching expertise,” Masood told KO.

“I spent my own money to complete this course. My aim is to develop and strengthen the grassroots football in the Valley because grassroots is the foundation. This is much needed, especially in the far-flung areas,” he added.

“We should also have Youth Leagues for Under 18, Under 15 and Under 12 footballers. This is an absolute must if we want to improve the football scene here,” Masood concluded.

Masood Maqbool is among a handful of young men who have taken up football coaching as a career. The AIFF and AFC Licenses are a testament to Masood’s passion for football and footballers he works with.
