News Agency Employee ‘Held With Grenades’

Srinagar: Government forces on Tuesday arrested an employee of a local news agency from Lal Chowk area here and recovered two grenades from him, police said.

Police said a journalist Aadil Farooq, who works with a local news agency, was detained at Makkah market, Jehangir Chowk. According to police Aadil is a resident of Khrew Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

During a search of his bag, two hand grenades were recovered, police said.

“#Journo-#terrorist Adil from Pampore Pulwama #arrested along with 02 #grenades in the heart of #Srinagar City. More arrests are expected. #Investigation going on. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.

“It is pertinent to mention that Aadil Farooq was arrested in February 2019 also and detained under PSA for his involvement in providing logistics as well as other support to the active (militants) operating in Khrew area,” a police spokesman said.
