No Eid-ul-Azha Prayers For Third Year At Jamia Masjid Srinagar

Srinagar: No Eid-ul-Azha prayers would be held at historic Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar on Wednesday. All congregational prayers in the historic Masjid have remained suspended for the past more than two months to prevent spread of coronavirus.

This decision was taken by Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid (AAJM), headed by Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is under house arrest since August 5, 2019.

Since all congregational prayers in major worship places are not allowed in view of the COVID, no Eid-ul-Azha prayers would be held in the Jamia Masjid, officials of the management body said.

They said all congregational prayers, including Friday, remained suspended in the Masjid for the past more than two months.

All gates of the historic Masjid remained closed for devotees, they said, adding that a decision to reopen the grand mosque will be taken only after consulting experts and officials.

‘Remember Sacrifices’: Mirwaiz Greets People On Eid-ul-Azha

Kashmir’s chief cleric Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Tuesday extended heartfelt greetings to the Muslim World on Eid-ul-Azha, and said that the Festival of Sacrifice, in essence, carries the life-giving message in which is hidden the true prosperity of humankind.

In the Eid message, Mirwaiz said this auspicious occasion teaches us the lessons of self-sacrifice, faith and belief in Almighty Allah  and most  importantly submission to his command ,the traits of Prophet Ibraheem (AS).

Mirwaiz said, “as in the rest of the world this Eid is being celebrated in J&K too while we are grappling with the challenge of COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Due to which people are facing immense problems; however as Muslims  we have pinned our hopes and faith on  Allah Almighty that He will see us through.”

Mirwaiz said, “This is also the time to remember the great sacrifices that people of this nation have given and continue to do so, as a consequence of the lingering Kashmir conflict. Leaders of our nation and thousands of Kashmiris, mostly our youth are languishing in jails and detention centre’s. We remember them in our prayers and in our celebrations. We are hopeful that all the sacrifices rendered will inshallah be rewarded.”

Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam Appeals People To Donate Sacrificial Animal Skins

Anjuman Nusrat-ul-Islam has appealed to the people of Kashmir to voluntarily submit the skin of their sacrificial animals at the two centres set up by it at Mirwaiz Manzil and Islamia School, in Rajouri Kadal area of Srinagar’s Old City.

Anjuman, in a statement, said that the institution, set up in 1899, runs the Islamia Oriental College since the same year where students have been introduced to religious sciences and arts for over a century. In every era, the leading scholars, muftis, preachers and imams in Jammu and Kashmir have graduated from this institution which has a golden history, it said.

“All the needs of the students residing in the college including accommodation and food are the responsibility of the institution. However, due to COVID-19 this year too, the members, volunteers and sympathisers of the Anjuman are unable to go to different areas for collecting the skin of the sacrificial animals.”

“As such, the Anjuman has set up two centres, at Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadal and Islamia School Rajouri Kadal, to collect the animal skin. Therefore, all the well-wishers are appealed to voluntarily submit their sacrificial animals’ skin at these centres for the sake of Allah (SWT),” the statement said.
