New Delhi: Syed Ahmad Shakeel and Shahid Yusuf, two sons of Hizbul Mujahideen supremo Syed Salahuddin were “actively involved in terror-funding” but all evidence on file was buried, and facts suppressed “due to a favourable regime”, government sources have disclosed, according to media reports here.
They however did not identify the ‘favourable regime’.
The revelations came a day after PDP chief and former J&K chief minister Mehbooba Mufti questioned the sacking of Salahuddin’s sons asking how they could be persecuted for actions of their father without an enquiry.
Syed Salahuddin is named a Specially Designated Global Terrorist by the US Department Of State and in India is on the most wanted terrorist list of the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
Investigators, according to these reports, have found Shakeel, who was working in SKIMS since the 1990s, of facilitating terror-funding on at least six occasions.
They also have accused Shahid Yusuf, an employee of the agriculture department since 2007, to have been involved in terror-financing on nine occasions.
“Shahid Yusuf even visited Dubai on a passport where fathers name was mentioned as Yousuf Mir instead of Syed Mohd Yusuf. This was in 1999-2000. He was accompanied by Nasir Mir, Hizbul Mujahideen operative who lives in Dubai, investigators have found, these reports suggest. During his visit Shahid Yousuf met his father Salahuddin. He also met Nazir Ahmad Qureshi, who is originally from Baramulla but now operates from Saudi Arabia and London and finances terror activities in India,” according to these reports.
They claimed Shakeel’s terror activities were unraveled after the NIA took over a terror funding case originally probed by Delhi Police.
Charges were framed against the two brothers by NIA in 2020 and Jammu and Kashmir administration on Saturday said it has terminated the services of 11 government employees, including sons of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin.
Their services were terminated under Article 311 of the Constitution of India. No inquiry is necessary against the accused under this. A designated committee for scrutinising such cases recommended this action. Dismissed employees can only approach a High Court for relief, reports said.
