Srinagar: The Concerned Citizens’ Group (CCG) led by former Union Minister Yashwant Sinha on Monday arrived on a three-day visit to Srinagar to assess the ground situation and to meet the leaders of mainstream political parties in the Valley.
Besides Sinha, who has been former Finance and External Affairs minister in the BJP government in the past, the other group members including Air Vice Marshall (Retd) Kapil Kak, Bharat Bushan, and Sushobha Barve (Executive Secretary of Centre for Dialogue and Reconciliation), arrived in Srinagar on Monday afternoon on a three-day visit. Another prominent member of the group Wajahat Habibullah could not make it to the Valley due to some personal reasons.
“We have been regularly coming to Kashmir. This time, we want to try and understand a little more about the prevailing situation on the ground. We have a number of meetings with political leaders tomorrow and a day after,” Barve told Kashmir Observer.
“We will also meet the leaders of Gupkar alliance. We will hear from them more in detail about the Delhi meeting. We will also hear how they see the way forward,” she added.
Among other mainstream leaders, the CCG delegation is likely to meet National Conference President Farooq Abdullah, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti, and CPI-(M) leader MY Tarigami.
Besides it, the group will also meet several delegations from Srinagar and north and south parts of the Valley during their three-day visit.
“Tomorrow, we will be meeting people from south Kashmir. In the second half of the day, we will meet people from Srinagar and north Kashmir,” Barve.
She further said that the group has frequently been visiting Jammu and Kashmir after government of India revoked the special status and split the state into two Union Territories.
The group has been critical of government’s policies and have accused the Centre of making attempts to incubate artificial political processes in Jammu and Kashmir and implement domicile laws for the Union Territory by using lockdown as an opportunity.
Pertinently, CCG delegation’s visit to Kashmir comes ten days after 14 political leaders from the Union Territory attended an all part meet convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on June 24 to discuss the future course of political action.
