Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir reported on Monday 599 new cases of coronavirus, the lowest ever number of cases in over two months, while nine more people succumbed to the infection across the Union Territory during the last 24 hours.
According to the officials, 438 new cases were reported from Kashmir Valley while 161 were detected from Jammu Division thus taking the total number of people infected since the outbreak of pandemic last year in J&K to 308011. The 599 cases were the lowest to be recorded in the Union Territory in the last 68 days.
Giving district-wise details, the officials said that Srinagar reported 161, Baramulla 38, Budgam 60, Pulwama 37, Kupwara 62, Anantnag 33, Bandipora 19, Ganderbal 7, Kulgam 17, Shopian 4, Jammu 22, Udhampur 13, Rajouri 33, Doda 27, Kathua 5, Samba 11, Kishtwar 5, Poonch 15, Ramban 8 and Reasi 17 fresh cases of coronavirus.
Moreover, they said, 2139 more patients have recovered—729 from Jammu division and 1410 from the Valley. Also, the officials said that one new confirmed case of mucormycosis (black fungus) has been reported today, bringing the cumulative number of confirmed cases to 20 in J&K.
Regarding the fatalities, the officials said that four were reported from Jammu Division while five people succumbed to the infection at various healthcare institutions in the Valley. With these deaths, the overall fatality count in the Union Territory rose to 4195.
Among the victims from the Valley, officials said, included a woman from Kakapora area of Pulwama, who died within half an hour of her admission to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag. Besides her, two more women a 70-year-old woman from Awantipora died three days after remaining admitted to hospital, while a 71-year-old woman from Rathsuna Tral died 12 days after remaining admitted to the hospital.
