Srinagar- Amid Covid-19 pandemic, ‘Wall of Kindness’– a charity corner – for the needy people has come up in Yakmanpora area of Singhpora block in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The initiative has been started by Idara Islamic Library Imam Khamnaei Yakmanpora for the needy people in the area.
The charity corner invites the passers-by with a slogan: “Leave what you do not need” and “take it if you need”.
The ‘Wall of Kindness’ is an Iranian concept of charity to help the needy.
At the wall people can leave their surplus clothes, food and other items for the needy people who can collect whatever they need from the items placed there.
Moulana Muzaffar Mehadi Najfi inaugurated the charity corner on Sunday.
Earlier, chairman Idara Islamic Library Imam Khamnaei Yakmanpora, Gulzar Ahmad Sofi, along with other members of trust cum library had formulated the idea of ‘wall of kindness’ few weeks back.
“Wall of kindness is also known as ‘Deewar-e-Meherban’ in some countries and was first started in Iran and then initiative spread across the globe,” said Molvi Aejaz Hussain Bhat.
“It is a small effort to bridge the gap between the various sections of people,” he said, adding that “we received an overwhelming response from the people who donated items such including woollen clothes, food, books, and blankets.”
On the occasion, many locals appreciated the initiative and termed it a welcome step for the village.
“It is a welcome initiative and civil society will extend every possible step for this purpose,” said a local Fayaz Ahmad Sofi.
“This initiative is mainly meant for the downtrodden section of the people,” said Assadullah Magloo, a teacher by profession.
Ex. Chairman of the said trust cum library Syed Hilal Shah said that this great initiative will bring visible change in the mind set of locals and passer-by’s in terms of charity.
“We are always ready to support such initiates as it is also mentioned clearly in our holy Quran to help those who are in need,” said a local.
