Srinagar: The district administration in south Kashmir’s Shopian on Wednesday ordered a magisterial inquiry into last month’s encounter in which three militants were killed.
The additional district magistrate Shopian, who is also the inquiry officer, issued an order on Saturday asking people to share information about the encounter in Kanigam area of Shopian on May 5-6 in which three militants were killed.
Danish Mir, Mohammad Umer Bhat, both residents of Khajapora and Zaid Bashir Reshi of Reban, as per police, were killed in the encounter with a joint team of state forces in the Kanigam area of the district. Police had also said that another militant, Tausif Ahmad had laid down his arms before the joint forces after being persuaded to surrender.
“Whereas, such an incident took place at Kanigam, Shopian Tehsil Barbugh (Imamsahib) district Shopian on 05 May, 2021. If any person wants to share information regarding this incident, he/she can visit this office personally during office hours by or before 10 June, 2021,” reads the order.
“It is notified to the general public that as per the standing orders of the government, a magisterial inquiry of every militancy operation is required to be conducted,” it adds.
