8 Youth Slapped With UAPA Over Funeral Sloganeering

Srinagar: At least eight youth from Kupwara district have been booked by police under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for raising anti-India slogans during the funeral of youth who died in a road mishap last week.

The youth Mohammad Amin Dar died in a road accident during the intervening night of May 28 near his native Bumhama in the north Kashmir district, reports said Wednesday. During the funeral of the youth, mourners allegedly chanted anti-India slogans following which police filed a case FIR No. 181/21 under IPC Sections of 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 147 (Punishment for rioting) besides stringent 13 ULA (P) Act at the Police Station Kupwara.

According to the reports, police identified eight youth who allegedly resorted to sloganeering. Out of eight, four have been arrested by police under Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, which prescribes up to seven years imprisonment for “advocating, abetting, advising or inciting the commission of any unlawful activity”.

The arrested youth have been identified as Qaiser Ahmad Mir, Bilal Ahmad Mir, Zahoor Ahmad Dar and Aijaz Ahmad Ganai, all residents of Bumhama, news agency GNS reported quoting officials.

Four others named in the FIR have been identified as Aabid Hussain Mir, Abass Ahmad Mir, Firdous Ahmad Bhat and Fayaz Ahmad Dar.
