Covid-19: Srinagar Logs 6400 Cases In A Fortnight

‘5,489 Cases Active, Admin Notifies 48 Areas As Micro Containment Zones

Srinagar: The active coronavirus positive cases in capital city Srinagar have crossed 5400-mark on Saturday with official data revealing that the summer capital has recorded over 6400 cases in the last 15 days. The district administration has also declared 48 localities across Srinagar as Micro Containment Zones in the last nearly one month.

The toll of active positive cases of COVID-19 cases has reached to 5489. The data reveals that the summer capital has recorded 6,464 positive cases in the last 15 days.

On April 11, Srinagar recorded 362 cases of COVID-19 while on April 12, Srinagar recorded 303 positive cases. According to the data 423 cases were recorded on April 13 while 388 positive cases were recorded on April 14.

Srinagar reported 418 and 407 positive cases on April 15 and 16 respectively, the data said, adding that On April 17, Srinagar recorded 319 positive cases while on April 18 and 19, 520 and 383 positive cases respectively have been detected in the summer capital.

On April 20, Srinagar recorded 647 positive cases while on April 21, the summer capital recorded 612 cases. The data revealed that 590 COVID cases were recorded on April 22 while 501 cases were recorded on April 23.

Srinagar recorded a total of 591 cases today, thus adding the number of cases from the last 15 days to 6,464.

According to the data, the district has a total of 5489 active positive cases at present.

With the recovery of 363 people today, the overall toll of recovered patients so far has mounted to 32025 in the district. A total of 500 deaths have also been reported so far across the district, the data said.

Additional to several government orders 48 localities across Srinagar have been declared as Micro containment Zones.

Admin Starts Vaccination Drive In Srinagar Markets

Amid a spike in the COVID-19 cases, the district administration Srinagar has started vaccination drive in market places in the district.

The health officials carried out COVID vaccination drive in the historic Jamia Masjid market, located in the Old City area of Nowhatta yesterday.

Witnesses said that the people who had come to offer prayers at Jamia Masjid or other passersby in the market were vaccinated.

Today, the drive was carried out at the commercial hub Lal Chowk, where traders were vaccinated.

Meanwhile, Lal Chowk traders Association have expressed gratitude to the administration for carrying out the vaccination drive.

Talking to media persons, members of traders Association said that they are thankful to deputy commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Tehsildar, Patwari and others for organising the vaccination drive here today.

“Amid steep rise in the COVID-19 cases, we appeal to the shopkeepers and general people to come forward and get vaccinated as the vaccination drive will continue for three days here,” the traders said.

Dr Mahoor Shafi, who was part of the drive, said that it’s great to see positive response from the people vis-à-vis getting vaccinated. “The vaccine is not stopping virus but it gives immunity to protect oneself from getting infected,” she said.

J&K Bank Qamarwari Shut After Nine Employees Test Positive

The Jammu and Kashmir Bank authorities Saturday ordered closure of its Qamarwari branch for at least five days after two of its staff members tested Covid positive.

Chief Medical Officer Qamarwari, Dr Sameer said that nine employees of JK Bank Qamarwari were detected Covid positive in the main branch of JK Bank Qamarwari.

He said that after the sanitisation of the bank, the bank was closed for five days

He said primary contacts of these employees will be tested after quarantine of 5 days adding that all the primary and secondary contacts of the affected employees have been advised to self isolate.

Khanyar Declared Micro Containment Zone After 50 Test Positive

The district administration Srinagar on Saturday declared Khanyar area of Srinagar as a Containment Zone after 50 positive cases were detected from the area in the last two days.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar Muhammad Aijaz Asad in a tweet said that over 50 positive cases were detected during mass sampling in Khanyar area in last two days.

He added that after detection of cases, Khanyar area has been declared as a Containment Zone.

“Over 50 Positive cases reported from Khanyar area during mass sampling in the last two days. Therefore, Khanyar is hereby notified as a Containment zone. Pl cooperate with the field staff. Let’s #BreakTheChain,” DC Srinagar tweeted.
