Keeping Darbar At Jammu Unwise Decision: RTI Movement

‘It Has Nothing To Do With Spread Of Covid-19’

Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir RTI Movement Friday urged Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to rethink on not undertaking bi-annual Durbar Move.

In a statement Chairman RTI Movement Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat said that it was an unwise decision which should be revisited as durbar move has no relation with spread of COVID 19.

“The UT administration has claimed that due to sudden upsurge in the COVID-19 the bi-annual durbar move has been stalled. The offices won’t be shifted from Jammu to Srinagar for summer session until further notice. If this was the case why was the durbar move undertaken last year in October when the move offices particularly civil secretariat was closed in Srinagar and opened in Jammu in November 1st week. During that time also COVID 19 was at peak. This is unacceptable to people of Kashmir which goes against the traditions and culture of J&K” said Dr Raja Muzaffar.

“The officials will be travelling in their private cars or hired vehicles. They won’t be coming to Srinagar in a procession or a jam packed train or trucks. How can COVID 19 spread by allowing offices to shift from Jammu to Srinagar. Not asking all the offices to move to Srinagar will also have an impact on the economy of hoteliers and guest house owners where the employees are kept for 6 months by the J & K Estates Department ” the statement adds.
