Srinagar: The Provincial Commissioner Kashmir Saturday published the names of those who have occupied government land in the Srinagar district. These include government employees, farmers, traders, and others.
Following the directions of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, the administration started compiling a list of beneficiaries of the Roshni Act. The list also includes former ministers, businessmen, and bureaucrats.
A senior administration official said that the Revenue Department has already ruled out a move in the matter. “We are currently compiling a list of beneficiaries, which will be published later on the website,” he said.
“So far we have collected the details of more than 15,000 people and more details are being collected,” he added.
“After this operation, government land worth crores of rupees will be recovered,” he said.
He said that under the Roshni Act, about 348,200 kanals of land have been given to the people. The Srinagar district administration has included the names of a former minister, a Congress leader and a businessman in its list in the Roshni Act case, he claimed.
According to sources privy to the developments, Former Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu and his three relatives namely Shahzada Bano, Ejaz Drabu and Iftikhar Drabu have been named in the list.
In addition to this prominent businessman and Congress leader KK Amla, Rachna Amla, Veena Amla, Mushtaq Ahmed, former bureaucrat Muhammad Shafi Pandit and his wife Nighat Pandit and Syed Muzaffar Agha have also been mentioned as the beneficiaries of the Roshni Act. (CNS)
