Teen Brother Of Slain Militants Goes Missing in South Kashmir

Srinagar: A teenager has gone missing from his home in south Kashmir’s Tral town for nearly a week triggering speculation of him having joined a militant ranks.

19-year-old Kashif Mir a student of eleventh standard, as per a family member went missing from his home in Dadsara, Tral on March 20. “We have been looking for him at every possible place however have been unable to locate him for nearly a week now”, he said, adding that “A missing report dated March 20 has been already registered in this regard.”

Mir’s two elder siblings Nayeem Bashir and Adil Bashir both associated with militant group Hizb-ul-Mujhaideen were killed in separate encounters in 2010 and 2014 respectively. Kashif has two brothers, one sister besides his elderly parents.

A local news agency KNO quoted an unnamed police officer as saying that efforts were on to trace the missing teenager

“He will be given a proper chance to return even if he has joined any militant outfit,” he said.
