Srinagar: The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Wednesday filed a charge sheet against a police officer for demanding bribe from a complainant in Mendhar area of Rajouri district.
Charge sheet was filed against Naseer Ahmed Khan, the then Sub Inspector, posted in police station Mendhar before the court of special judge anti-corruption Rajouri in a case registered against him last year, an ACB spokesperson said Wednesday. Khan, he said, was booked by ACB under FIR No.01/2020 under section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1998 registered in Police station ACB Rajouri.
He further said that the case was charge sheeted after obtaining sanction for launching of prosecution from the competent authority. The case has been listed for hearing on April 28, 2021.
Giving details of the case, the ACB spokesperson said that Khan was booked after a complaint was received from a man alleging that the police officer was demanding Rs 10,000 from him for not presenting the charge sheet against his minor sister.
The complainant, he said had told the ACB that a case stands registered against his family members in police station Mendhar which was charge sheeted in the court against him, his father, mother and wife.
“The Sub Inspector being inquiry officer of the case has kept the supplementary charge sheet pending against his minor sister and was demanding bribe from the complainant for not presenting the charge-sheet against her,” the ACB spokesperson said.
Accordingly, he said, a case was registered and a team of ACB had successfully trapped the accused red handed while accepting the bribe amount of Rs.10,000 from the complainant in presence of independent witnesses and trap team members. The accused person was arrested on spot, the bureau spokesperson added.
