BOSE Revises Class 10 Marks Assessment Scheme

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (BOSE) on Wednesday revised the marks assessment scheme of 10th class with 20 percent marks for internal assessment and 80 percent for theoretical part only.

BOSE said that the twenty percent of marks were reserved for internal assessment in order to assess students in a diverse manner, at different times and also to observe and examine a broad range of curriculum objectives.

“It is notified for the information of all the stakeholders in general and students of Secondary School Examination (Class 10) in particular that from the Academic Session 2020-21 (in case of Kashmir Division, Winter Zone areas of Jammu Division and UT of Ladakh) and ensuing Academic Session 2021-22 (in case of Summer Zone areas of Jammu Division), the scheme of assessment and examination practices have been revised,” reads a notification issued by the BOSE Director Academics, Farooq Ahmad Peer.

BOSE said that as per the new scheme, twenty percent marks out of total 100 have been kept reserved for internal assessment in order to assess students in a diverse manner, at different times and also to observe and examine a broad range of curriculum objectives.

“Henceforth, the theory paper will be of 80 marks only, while 20 marks will be kept for the internal assessment on the analogy of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE),” it reads.

BOSE also said that pattern and design of question papers has also been modified and while taking into consideration the parameters viz analytical approach, critical thinking and objectivity for the annual (Regular) examination scheduled to be held in (October-November) 2021 in Kashmir Division, Winter Zone areas of Jammu Division, UT of Ladakh and (Feb-March) 2022 in Summer Zone areas of Jammu Division.

Meanwhile, Peer also said that the examination of reappear, failure candidates on the old pattern of question papers shall continue and shall be held for only two (subsequent examinations) after declaration of Annual (Regular) 2020 results of Winter Zone areas and Annual (Regular) 2021 results in Summer Zone areas of Jammu Division.

“All the Heads of Institutions are informed to kindly direct the concerned teaching staff to check the guidelines of internal assessment for recording, reporting of individual learners throughout the session,” Peer said.
