SRINAGAR- A seven member team of All Jammu Kashmir Mountaineering Foundation on Sunday successfully scaled Srinagar’s Highest Peak, Mount Mahadev (3966m) in what the Foundation says is 2021’s first summit to the famed peak.

The team was led by Senior member of All Jammu Kashmir Mountaineering Foundation, Abid Kharadi. The team members included Faizan Shafi, Basharat Mustafa, Mohammad Omer, Aijaz, Bilal and Samullah.

“The trek was organised to provide an opportunity to new members of the Foundation who belong to different districts of Kashmir Valley,” a statement from the All JK Mountaineering Foundation reads.

“On Saturday our team started the trek from Scholar School in Dara, Harwan at around 4:30pm. Following the snowy trails we reached Lidwas at 10:30pm. The Team camped at Lidwas, which is a base camp for Mt Mahadev. The night trekking made the event more adventurous. From base camp, the trekking team started their hike towards the summit again at 6:30 am. The snowy conditions made it very difficult but the climbers didn’t give up and successfully scaled the peak at around 10:30 am.”

Mahadev or Mahadev peak is a mountain peak in the vicinity of Dachigam National Park in Srinagar City. It lies behind the famous Zabarwan mountains near Dal Lake. Although the mountain can be climbed from many routes, the main route to this Mountain peak is from Dachigam, in Harwan. The majestic Tarsar & Marsar lakes lie on the eastern side of this Mountain. Mount Mahadev is visible from almost all parts of Srinagar and also from the saffron town of Pampore.

“Snow-trekking to Kashmir’s different mountains is becoming increasingly popular. Srinagar has a massive potential for adventure tourism as well. People visiting Kashmir must take part in snow-trekking to get the best out of their trip,” the Foundation said.
