Srinagar- A Special Police Officer (SPO) was killed and a cop injured in an ongoing encounter that broke out in Beerwah area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday, police said.
State forces launched a cordon and search operation in Beerwah area of Budgam after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said.
He said the search operation turned into an encounter after the militants opened fire at a search party of the forces, who retaliated.
He said that one SPO identified as Altaf Ahmad has been killed, while as another policeman namely Manzoor Ahmad injured during the initial firing.
The encounter was going on till last reports.
