Srinagar: Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a Jaish-e-Muhammad militant from Patushahi area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan of Panzigam was arrested at a checkpoint established by government forces at Patushahi following credible information about the movement of militants from Sopore to Bandipora, a police spokesperson said Thursday. He said incriminating materials including arms & ammunition were recovered from Khan who is linked with JeM outfit.
The police spokesperson further said that the preliminary enquiry has revealed that Khan had joined militant ranks recently and was tasked to carry out “subversive activities” in Sopore and Bandipora towns. Khan, reportedly had joined militant ranks 14 days earlier and a pistol, 10 bullets and 5 grenades were recovered from his possession.
“It is pertinent to mention here that on January 26, the said militant managed to escape from a cordon and search operation at Adipora area of Sopore while taking advantage of darkness,” the police spokesperson said.
“Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Bandipora and further investigation has been initiated,” he added.
